While               it               does               look               plain               and               boring,               you               want               the               initial               piece               to               be               as               simple               as               possible               so               as               not               to               be               hung               on               any               clothing,               or               make               cleaning               the               piercing               properly               any               harder               than               necessary.

While               those               beautiful               decorative               pieces               are               awesome               to               look               at               they               also               have               extra               places               for               bacteria               to               hide               thus               increasing               the               chances               of               infection.
               Standard               healing               time               for               most               people               is               three               months               even               up               to               one               year               depending               upon               how               quickly               your               body               heals.

Infections               and               poorly               chosen               jewelry               can               make               this               time               lean               more               towards               the               one               year               end,               where               as               few               problems               and               proper               jewelry               will               shorten               the               time               to               heal.

You               must               clean               the               piercing               at               least               two               times               a               day               with               some               form               of               antibacterial               soap               that               is               fragrance               free.

Fragrance               free               is               important               as               the               fragrances               will               sometimes               cause               irritation               and               make               the               piercing               irritated,               which               is               never               good               to               stress               a               new               piercing               of               any               type.
               It               is               also               important               that               you               must               resist               the               urge               to               play               with               the               new               piercing,               and               do               not               touch               it               ever               without               washing               your               hands               first,               and               do               not               let               others               touch               it               at               all,               unless               they               are               a               trained               professional,               this               keeps               down               the               risk               of               infections               and               other               problems.

Do               not               change               your               jewelry               at               all               until               the               piercing               is               at               least               two               months               old,               and               make               sure               you               carefully               clean               any               jewelry               before               inserting               it.
               It               is               also               important               to               note               that               while               many               piercers               prefer               to               use               curved               barbells               for               initial               piercings               there               are               harder               to               clean,               they               are               less               prone               to               parking               however               than               circular               barbells.

The               drawback               to               a               circular               barbell               or               captive               bead               ring               is               that               they               are               heavier               than               a               curved               barbell               and               are               more               likely               to               park               to               one               side               of               the               navel               or               the               other.

However,               the               circular               barbell               and               captive               bead               ring               jewelry               are               much               easier               to               clean               since               the               jewelry               can               easily               be               spinned               through               the               piercing               while               cleaning               to               ensure               the               whole               piece               is               clean.
               While               some               piercers               will               pierce               a               navel               with               a               smaller               gauge               than               14,               it               is               highly               unrecommended.

Smaller               gauges               will               increase               the               chances               of               the               piercing               migrating               out               of               the               skin,               and               causing               scarring               and               heartache.

Always               use               14               gauge               or               larger               for               a               navel               piercing               as               this               is               the               best               size               to               use.
               Women               who               become               pregnant               with               a               navel               piercing               are               often               able               to               leave               the               standard               jewelry               in               until               approximately               six               months,               once               the               stomach               is               too               big,               it               is               often               possible               to               replace               that               hard               jewelry               with               the               soft               jewelry               of               the               pregnancy               belly               rings.

These               rings               are               wonderful               for               pregnant               women               who               do               not               want               to               lose               their               piercing               because               of               pregnancy.

However,               please               be               aware               that               as               the               stomach               grows,               it               will               cause               the               piercing               to               look               distorted               at               some               point.

Human               skin               being               so               stretchy               makes               this               possible,               great               thing               about               our               skin               is               that               it               will               regain               it's               normal               shape               after               delivering               the               baby               and               getting               back               into               shape               so               that               the               piercing               is               not               lost               forever.
               For               the               actual               piercing,               the               piercer               will               wear               gloves,               to               make               sure               that               no               fluids               are               passed               between               people.

Typically,               the               piercer               will               look               closely               at               the               body               position               to               ensure               that               the               correct               placement               is               chosen.

Before               the               piercer               starts               the               initial               piercing               the               equipment               should               be               pulled               out               of               plastic               packaging               and               placed               onto               a               sterile               tray               or               table.

The               piercer               should               mark               the               place               to               be               pierced               to               help               ensure               the               piercing               will               be               even               and               straight.

Next,               the               piercer               will               carefully               take               a               pair               of               forceps,               clamp               the               skin               around               the               markings,               and               make               sure               the               dots               on               the               top               and               the               bottom               both               line               up               correctly               so               that               the               piercing               is               correct.
               For               the               actual               piercing               the               piercer               will               have               the               skin               clamped               between               the               forceps,               the               piercer               will               open               the               needle               right               before               beginning,               and               use               either               a               cork               or               a               tube               to               catch               the               needle               as               it               exits               the               skin               to               keep               from               being               injured.

Once               the               needle               is               inserted,               the               jewelry               will               be               attached               to               the               top               of               the               needle               and               pulled               through.

The               forceps               are               then               removed,               and               the               balls               attached               to               the               jewelry               to               hold               it               in               place.

An               initial               quick               cleaning               should               be               done               after               the               piercing               itself               is               finished               to               make               sure               the               area               is               clean.
               That               is               it;               there               is               nothing               else               to               the               standard               navel               piercing.

The               only               difference               in               the               placement               procedures               will               be               which               side               of               the               navel               is               actually               pierced,               which               is               only               a               small               minor               difference.

One               of               the               best               benefits               of               the               navel               piercing               is               that               it               is               quick,               and               relatively               painless.
